BUP Career Club began its journey on the 7th of January, 2016 headed by Asif Ahmed Tonmoy with the ambition to contrive the future career of the new graduates and create a pathway for them to evolve as the future leaders of the country. BUP Career Club is currently one of the leading clubs in BUP, striving vigorously to accomplish its purpose. It has been proving itself to be an expedient means of recognition and embellishment to the students of the university through arranging various events comprising of its flagship event “BUP Education and Career Fest” which is a three-day career expo which offers a window of career opportunities to thousands of graduates from all 16 departments of the university. 

Alongside the flagship event, BUP Career Club has organized another signature event MIC- Make It Count 2020 and this year it has gone national for the very first time. It is a public speaking competition for all the undergraduates and graduates to exhibit their elocution. Due to the present condition, this year MIC-Make It Count was conducted online. Ahnaf Shahriar Abeer (President of BUP Career Club), Mrittika Sadi (General Secretary of BUP Career Club), Samiha Siddique (Senior Vice President of BUP Career Club) and all the representatives of the club have put in enormous efforts to launch this successful event on 3rd May 2020 to bring out the hidden talent of Public Speaking from our contestants and utilize their talent in the period of self-quarantine all whilst sitting at the comfort of their home. Besides, half of the registration fee will be extended to help amidst the COVID-19 pandemic crisis. The registration continued till 10th May 2020. 128 participants from 34 different universities took part in the competition this year. Around 15 noteworthy club partners from different universities have assisted to promote the most exciting platform to the speakers.

MIC-Make It Count 2020 started its first round on the 11th of May 2020. The first round was based on a relevant topic of COVID-19 crisis. The topic stimulated the thoughts amongst the participants, and they presented their thoughts on the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The first round was totally based on discerning how the participants could express their thoughts with the help of a video. Out of 128 participants who competed in the first round, only 30 participants made it to the second round of the competition. The second round started on May 15. It consisted of a creative challenge for the contestants. The round emphasized on the storytelling abilities of the contestants. The round was designed to bring out unorthodox ideas of the participants by giving out the beginning of a story and requiring the participants to finish the story in their own manners. The renditions of the participants were extraordinary to say the least. The judges for the second round consisted of adroit corporate individuals, namely Asif Ahmed Tonmoy (Market Systems Analyst, ACDI/VOCA), Nazmun Nahar (Marketing Skills & Sourcing Officer, Human Resources, British American Tobacco), Mourin Mostafiz (Graduate Trainee, Robi Axiata Limited), Samin Ahsan (Regional Business Development Officer, British American Tobacco), Md. Pranto Biswas (Territory Officer, British American Tobacco) and Anisha Aulad (Officer, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs, External and Corporate Affairs Division, Bkash Limited). The result of the second round was put out on May 22 and only the top 6 participants made it to the final round of MIC-Make It Count 2020.

The Grand Finale of this glamorous event was held on the 29th of May. The final round started at 8 PM via Facebook live, hosted by the adroit General Secretary of BUP Career Club, Mrittika Sadi. The theme for the Final Round is “Greatest Treasure”. Our top 6, the adroit set of finalists were composed of MD Atef Khan (from University of Dhaka), Rashad Reaz (from University of Dhaka), Oishee Eerada (from IBA, University of Dhaka), Nafiz Kazi (from Bangladesh University of Professionals), Shahriar Zahid Mormo (from Bangladesh University of Professionals) and Josfique Arefin (from Bangladesh University of Professionals). Each of the finalists got only 5 minutes to deliver their speech on their chosen topic based on the theme “Greatest Treasure”. Our finalists today have effortlessly shown off their public speaking skills and sharp acumen on the platform they have been provided. The viewers cheered for each individual as they were all amazed by the sheer brilliance that was being displayed. While only two could be crowned winners of this prestigious competition, we believe that each contestant showed true grit and creativity while voicing their ideas. 

Where there is great talent, there arises a need for constructive feedback and critics. Our expert panel of judges included some of the most noteworthy minds from their respective fields. Starting off with people who graced us with their time and presence, we had Zara Mahbub (Country Director and CEO of Kazi IT Center), Khairul Basher (Head of Communications at Grameenphone), Sabin Rahman (Vice President at Robi Axiata Limited) and Sarajit Baral (Regional Direction of Sylhet at British American Tobacco). This amazing panel of judges added a star factor to the competition with their experience and skills. They were extremely meticulous with their judgement, making sure to only select the best among the best. The night had the appearance of two of the most prominent figures behind the unwavering success story of BUP Career Club and they are none other than honorable Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals Major General Ataul Hakim Sarwar Hasan (SBP, SGP, ndc, afwc, psc, PhD), along with the respected Moderator of the club, Assistant Professor Mohammad Rajib Uddin. Their words of inspiration will forever be embedded in our minds. BUP Career Club expresses unending gratitude to both these amazing individuals for taking time out of their busy schedule for the event.

The audience enjoyed every bit, providing encouragement to all the participants. In the end, after much deliberation, the judges declared the winners. The Champion of MIC- Make It Count 2020 is Nafis Kazi from Bangladesh University of Professionals. His desire of expression and brilliant command over articulation have helped him achieve distinction in this competition. The Runner-Up of MIC-2020 is Josfique Arefin from Bangladesh University of Professionals. His exceptional speaking and presenting skills made him a formidable competitor in the finale.

Lastly, BUP Career Club wholeheartedly extends gratitude to the honorable Judgement panel, talented participants, respected Vice Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Professionals, members of BUP Career Club, Department of Business Administration- General, Chairman, Moderator for sparing no effort to make this event nothing but a remarkable success. Without their contribution it would have been impossible to make this happen in such a noteworthy way.

For the first time ever, MIC-Make it Count 2020 has managed to reach out to the undergraduate and graduate public speakers on a national scale being only online-based. It gave the participants an opportunity to express themselves in a novel way and share their points of views. BUP Career Club hopes to keep reaching such heights and beyond through more exciting events in the future.
