Exceptional Social Work Done by BUP Students in Cox’s Bazar

On 13 March 2019, the students of the Department of English (B.A Hons, Batch-1) of Bangladesh University of Professionals arranged an exceptional social work programme in Kasturaghat Government Primary School situated in Cox’s Bazar city. As a part of their four (4) days long batch trip, a group of 37 people including students, teachers and officer of the Department of English, BUP visited the school and offered voluntary teaching as well as gifts to the students from Pre-Primary to PSC level. The students of BUP taught the children on Language Movement of 1952, International Mother Language Day and the great Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. They also offered lessons on cleanliness of the classrooms, decorating classrooms with learning-friendly materials, singing the national anthem, doing mathematics with fun, resisting gender harassment etc. After voluntary teaching, they distributed pencils, erasers, notebooks, sharpeners and hand-made educative posters for classroom decoration to the children. They also talked with the teachers and children about different problems of the school. The programme titled “Seize the Day with the Kids” in association with Good Luck Stationery was led by Dr. Fahmida Haque, Chairman, Department of English, BUP and conducted by Associate Professor Dr. Mohoshin Reza along with other teachers and officers. The group also arranged a “Beach Cleaning Initiative” in Cox’s Bazar Laboni Beach on the same day. Previously, the group visited Charpara Red Crescent Government Primary School and Leadership School and College in Maheshkhali Island and performed some social work there on 12 March 2019.
