First National Accounting Olympiad of Bangladesh held in BUP

BUP Accounting Forum (BUPAF) unveiled its flagship event ‘1st National Accounting Olympiad (College Level)’ Grand Finale on 7th December 2019 at Bijoy Auditorium, BUP. Honorable Distinguished Fellow of Centre for Policy Dialogue (CPD) Professor Mustafizur Rahman ornamented the event as the Chief Guest. Brig Gen Muhammad Wasim-Ul-Haq, ndu, afwc, psc, Dean, FBS, BUP; Dr. Mahfuzul Hoque, Professor, University of Dhaka and Mr. Jamal Ahmed Chowdhury, Ex-President of ICMAB & Current Chairman of Education, ICMAB were also present there as special guests.


BUP Accounting Forum presents 1st National Accounting Olympiad in association with ICMAB first started its journey one month ago with online registration opening on 1st November 2019. The participants from all over the Bangladesh had to go through three rigorous rounds of examination consisting of multiple choice questions and case studies for the evaluation of the knowledge of the students on Accounting.


The final exam held on 7th December 2019 was followed up by a majestic closing ceremony. The finally selected 100 students along with their guardians and graduating students of BUP attended two value added seminars at Bijoy Auditorium after the completion of case study exam in the morning. First session was on ‘How to Choose Your Career’ which was conducted by the CEO of 10 Minute School Ayman Sadiq. The second session was conducted by Institute of Cost and Management Accountants of Bangladesh (ICMAB). The session highlighted the importance of pursuing professional accounting degree in career. Nikhil Chandra Shill, Associate Professor of East West University & Educational Consultant of ICMAB as well took this session.  


This new yet time demanding Accounting Olympiad created a new craze across Bangladesh as BUP Accounting Forum segmented its team and employed different teams to different colleges for road shows. The competition successfully created the confidence among the college level students that Accounting is not mere crunching numbers rather it deals with decision making process which is required at all the stages of every organization. Honorable Chief Guest highly appreciated the very new idea of staging such value added Accounting Olympiad and expected that the legacy of this Olympiad will continue. Moreover he expected to broad the scope of this Olympiad and go beyond the border in the coming days. 


The event came to its conclusion with a cultural function and the announcement of the names of the top 10 contestants. The 2nd and 1st runners up received prize money of 15000 and 35000 taka respectively while the champion received a grand reward of 50000 taka. A student from Notre Dame College named Md. Amran Khan took the 1st National Accounting Olympiad Title. The top 10 students also got free registration on enrolment at ICMAB which worth 30000 taka each. The event was made successful with key contributions from Zicom Equipment Pte Ltd, Mercantile Bank, IFIC Bank, Robi 10 Minute School, Radio Foorti, SILSWA, The Daily Jugantor, Dhaka Times and Zenith.
