BUP Observes Martyrs’ Day and International Mother Language Day
Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) observed Martyrs' Day
and International Mother Language Day and paid tribute to the martyrs of the
Language Movement on 21 February 2021. To mark the day, a delegation of BUP
brought out a procession and gathered at the Central Shaheed Minar to place
floral wreaths. This year, the ceremony was held at a limited scale due to
global pandemic situation.
In addition, a virtual discussion meeting was held on the
contribution of martyr’s during the Language Movement by the initiative of BUP
Literature and Drama Club run by the Department of English. BUP VC Major
General Md Moshfequr Rahman, SGP, SUP, ndc, psc attended the virtual discussion
meeting as the chief guest.
The chief guest at the beginning of his speech paid homage to the
sacrifices of the martyrs of the Language Movement. He said, Bengali language
marks our existence, tradition and identity. The Language Movement is the first
step to our liberation struggle. This movement laid the seed of the formation
of Bangladesh as a separate nation. He put special emphasis on the practice of
our own culture by our young generation.
Among others, BUP Pro-VC Professor M Abul Kashem Mozumder, PhD,
high officials, faculty members, officers and students also joined the online
programme.
