Seminar on “Human Empowerment and Attaining Sustainable Development Goals in Bangladesh: The case of Women and Marginal Community”
The Department of Sociology of Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences organized a seminar titled “Human Empowerment and Attaining Sustainable Development Goals in Bangladesh: The case of Women and Marginal Community ” The seminar was held at Bijoy Auditorium of BUP on 31st October 2019, The aim of the seminar was to focus on the issues of Sustainable development, empowerment of woman and marginal community in Bangladesh. Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, MP,Honorable Speaker of the Jatiya Sangsad was present as the chief guest where Professor Dr. Monirul Islam Khan, Department of Sociology, University of Dhaka was the key note speaker in the seminar.
The aim of the seminar was to clarify the role of different governmental & non-governmental agencies in helping & promoting the life of women & deprived marginal communities. Dr. Monirul Islam Khan explained the relationship between human empowering and sustainable development in the context of Bangladesh. He described different dimension of development and how the process of development alter the condition of poverty, illiteracy, social exclusion with their negative consequences towards positive situation. He further discussed that human empowerment facilitate the process that ensure development and its sustainability. Different analytical discussion from sociological insight and Bangladesh perspective came up on his discussion.
Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Honorable Speaker Shared her experiences with warm words and inspired students lot to come forward and to be the change maker for our nation.
Major General Md Emdad-Ul-Bari, ndc, psc, te Vice Chancellor, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) and Professor M Abul Kashem Mozumder, PhD, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) was present as special guest. Brig. Gen. A. K. M. Iqbal Azim, ndc, psc, G+, PhD, Dean, FASS (BUP) moderated the session Associate Professor Josinta Zinia, Chairman of Sociology department concluded the seminar with the vote to thanks.
