Team Safewheel from BUP proudly lifts up the banner of the country at the United Nations

Hult Prize is the world’s largest student entrepreneurship competition, also known as the “Nobel Prize for Students”, organized by Hult Prize Foundation and sponsored by Clinton Foundation, in association with The United Nations Office for Partnerships. Every year President Bill Clinton announces a challenge for the students around the world. Students develop their business plan to solve that problem. Global champion of this competition is given 1 million USD as seed fund to start their business.

This year Team Safewheel, consisting Rafiq Islam, Mazbahul Islam, and Faysal Islam from the Department of Marketing representing Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) participated in the competition and became one of the top 6 Global Finalist teams to present their business Idea at The United Nations General Assembly on 14th of September. Team Safewheel was selected from a pool of over 250,000 applicants from around the world.

The journey started back in December 2018 when team Safewheel participated in the on-campus round of Hult Prize at BUP and became campus champion. Then they flew to Shanghai, China to participate in the Regional round where they competed against 55 teams from more than 35 countries from around the world and became the regional champion. Hult Prize has 27 regions around the world. All these 27 regional champion teams, along with 10 wildcard teams were invited to get enrolled in a two month long residential MBA crash course bootcamp on entrepreneurship called “Hult Prize Impact Accelerator” in Ashridge Executive Education Center, Berkhamsted, United Kingdom. This accelerator program is the world’s largest business accelerator offered jointly by the Hult Prize Foundation and Hult International Business School.

At the accelerator there are five “Pitch Fridays”, where all the teams give presentation at the end of each week in front of world-renowned  EOs, Founders, and other Business Leaders. The judges and experts of this year’s accelerator include 24 executives from Harvard Business School, and over a hundred other experts from different industries from around the world. Each week, the judges selects top three teams based on their Friday pitch. Team Saefwheel was in the top three position on three out of five weeks, being champion for two weeks. At the final week, there is a demo day where one team is selected by the votes of audience and judges as Accelerator Champion. Team Safewheel was announced as the final week champion team of the Accelerator having the maximum number of votes in the 10 years history of Hult Prize.

Along with the Accelerator Champion, five other teams were named as the Global Hult Prize Finalists of 2019. These 6 teams presented their business Idea at The United Nations headquarters in New York, USA on 14th September 2019 in front global leaders like President Bill Clinton, Professor Muhammad Yunus, Former President of Mexico and many others. This hult prize journey has shaped these three students of BUP into tuned business minded individuals. And they have shared their feelings of pride after being able to represent their institution and their country on a global stage like The United Nations.
