Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies
Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies (FSSS) started its journey from mid-2013. Commodore M Jasim Uddin Bhuiyan, (L), ndc, psc was the founder Dean and Brig Gen Md. Siddiqul Alam Sikder, BSP, ndc, psc is the present Dean. By its syllabus and curriculum, the faculty covers interrelated philosophical, sociological, political, legal, economic, psychological, ethical, humanitarian and other aspects of international relations, law, peace studies, conflict studies, and mass communication and journalism. Currently, 31 faculty members and 1213 students are an inseparable part of the faculty. The faculty contains four departments. Three undergraduate programmes under the Department of International Relations, Department of Law and Department of Mass Communication and Journalism and one regular Master’s programme under the Department of International Relations are currently going on. Additionally, the Department of Peace, Conflict and Human Rights Studies (MPCHRS) and the Department of Law are offering Professionals Master’s programmes respectively which are entirely financed by the concerned departments.

Departments at a glance
Department of International Relations:
The department was launched in January 2015. Lt Col Md Rabiul Alam (Retd) was the founder chairman. He also is the present chairman. This department encompasses 14 faculty members and 474 students. The total number of batches is five (05).
Department of Law:
The department was launched in January 2016. Capt Syed Saidur Islam Khan(BN) was the founder chairman and Lt Col Siraj Uddin Ahmed (Retd) is the present Chairman. This department encompasses 09 faculty members and 364 students. The total number of batches is four (04).
Department of Mass Communication and Journalism:
The department was launched in January 2017. Lt Col Siraj Uddin Ahmed (Retd) was the founder chairman and Lt Col Muhammad Khaled Bin Yusuf, EB is the present Chairman. This department encompasses 4 faculty members and 144 students. The total number of batches is three (03).
Department of Peace, Conflict and Human Rights Studies:
The Department started its journey in the year 2014. Lt Col Md. Rabiul Alam (Retd) was the founder chairman. The Department launched its first programme in January 2015. That’s time Lt Col Aktaruzzaman was the acting chairman. Lt Col Md. Rabiul Alam is the present chairman. This department encompasses a total of 4 faculty members and 51 students. Only one batch is completing its courses under this department. This department does not have honors programme only Professionals master’s programme is running.
The programme was launched in January 2017. Lt Col Siraj Uddin Ahmed (Retd) is the present Chairman. This department encompasses total 07 Adjunct faculty members and 174 students. The total number of batches is 04.
BA/BSS (Honours) Programmes:
All the departments under this faculty run four years BA/BSS (Honor’s) programmes which are divided into eight (08) semesters. There are two semesters in a year. Duration of each semester is six (06) months.
At present department of International Relations is conducting Master’s programme of one year. Department of Peace, Conflict and Human Rights Studies and Law are conducting Master’s programme of two years which is self-financed and classes are conducted on weekends (Friday and Saturday).
Number of Students:
The number of seats for undergraduate programmes is on average 50 for each section of all departments. The number of students in each department is as follows:

All the programmes of FSSS are conducted by a group of highly esteemed and qualified faculty members. There are 31 in-house and 19 adjunct faculties engaged in disseminating lessons to the students.
Total number of Officer/Staff:
Presently, 09 Officers and 17 staffs are providing services to the faculty and departments for enabling better education by the faculty and creating a better learning environment for the students.
Classrooms of BUP are well furnished and air-conditioned fitted with multimedia. Digital attendance system and latest software are used to monitor student’s attendance and performance assessment. BUP has a rich library and the required facilities for research.
