The Department of International Relations serves as a leading academic platform for the multidisciplinary study of global politics, foreign policy, diplomacy, strategic affairs, traditional and non-traditional security issues. Rooted in BUP’s mission to promote professional skills and intellectual excellence, BUP-IR started its journey in 2015. This department provides a dynamic academic hub where students cultivate a comprehensive understanding of how international and regional institutions, states and non-state actors shape contemporary world affairs. As a part of the Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies (FSSS), the Department of International Relations offers both BSS (Hons) and Masters programmes, incorporating theoretical rigor with practical insights and critical perspective. Built on a syllabus that blends classical and contemporary IR theories, the curriculum focuses on significant themes such as foreign policy, history of world affairs, conflict and cooperation, globalization, political economy, environmental politics, migration, gender, international development and Bangladesh in global affairs. As a result, the students are trained to critically analyze the issues through debates, seminars, workshops, simulations, expert lectures and enhance academic learning with real-world policy applications. At present, alumni members of BUP-IR are proving their academic and professional diligence in civil service, development sectors, non-government organizations, international organizations and other public and private sectors in Bangladesh and beyond. With a dedicated and beaming set of faculties and a skilled administrative milieu, BUP-IR is dedicated to play a significant role in shaping informed and global citizens to address emerging challenges in a complex and interconnected world.
