Biography

Mahbub Alam is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Environmental Science, Bangladesh University of Professionals. Currently, he is on study leave and pursuing his Ph.D. in Environmental Health Sciences at the University of South Carolina, USA. He also works as a graduate research assistant at the Center for Environmental Nanoscience and Risk (CENR), University of South Carolina. His ongoing Ph.D. research focuses on investigating the properties, transformations, and bio-accessibility of incidental nanomaterials (INMs) in wildland-urban interface (WUI) fire ashes. The data and findings generated from his research will be invaluable to environmental and public health professionals, enabling them to better understand the environmental and human health risk associated with wildfire exposure. Moreover, as an environmental scientist/engineer, he is driven by the desire to identify and monitor the environmental fate and effects of emerging pollutants (e.g., incidental nanomaterials, micro-, and nano-plastics, per- and polyfluorinated substances – PFAS, etc.) and develop sustainable solutions to address the current environmental and public health challenges.
