Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) successfully organised the 5th Research Project Contest 2026 from 8 to 16 August 2026, centred on the theme “Research on Climate and Environment.” The contest brought together aspiring researchers from across the country, fostering a vibrant platform for academic inquiry, innovation, and knowledge exchange on some of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time.
This year, the contest witnessed participation from 50 institutions from across Bangladesh, with 220 abstracts selected for the competition. The impressive participation reflected the growing interest among young researchers in addressing climate change, environmental sustainability, and related social, economic, scientific, and technological challenges through research.
As part of the contest, three specialised workshops were organised, focusing on different facets of research methodology and climate and environmental studies. The workshops provided participants with valuable guidance on developing research ideas, strengthening research methodologies, and understanding contemporary climate and environmental issues.
The contest concluded with a Closing Ceremony, where outstanding research projects were recognised and awarded. Champions and runners-up were awarded in two broad categories: Research in Science and Technology and Research in Business, Arts and Social Science. The awards celebrated the creativity, rigour, and originality demonstrated by the participating researchers.
The Closing Ceremony was graced by the esteemed keynote speaker, Dr. Prof. Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain, Chair Professor, Centre for Bangladesh Studies and Distinguished Professor, Department of Disaster Management and Resilience, BUP. His presence and insights added significance to the concluding event and underscored the importance of research-driven approaches to understanding and addressing climate and environmental challenges.
