BAF Academy (BAFA) is entrusted with the noble task of imparting training to the prospective pilot materials as well as ground branch officer cadets and under trainee officers of Bangladesh Air Force (BAF). Following the heroic contribution of Air Force personnel in the Liberation War of 1971, the need of having an independent Air Force Academy to train future Air Force leaders was earnestly felt. The idea was crystallized in 1973 by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and the academic activities were initiated under the name of Cadets' Training Unit (CTU) in November 1974 at Kurmitola, Dhaka. Later, this unit was shifted to Jashore in 1977 and was upgraded to a full-fledged Academy in 1982. Besides military and other professional training, the Academy introduced BSc (Aeronautics) program in 1984 under Rajshahi University. The affiliation of the same program was shifted from Rajshahi University to National University in 1993 with the introduction of BA (Pass) and BBS (Pass) programs in 2004 & 2006 respectively. After the establishment of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), all academic programs of this Academy were placed under this University in 2008. Moreover, BSc Engineering program of Military Institute of Science and Technology (MIST) is also being conducted in this Academy since 2009. According to the National Education Policy, BAF Academy finally adopted 4 years Hons curriculum under BUP wef 2015. Now BSc Hons in Aeronautics, BBA, BSc Engineering and 3 years BSc Aeronautics programs are being conducted in BAF Academy.
