After the liberation war the necessity of training for the members of Bangladesh Army was felt. As a result Combined Arms School (COMBAS) was established in Jashore Cantonment. Training for the members of “Corps of Engineers” was conducted in a separate wing of COMBAS named “Engineering Wing”. In 1975 Engineer Workshop was established in Dhaka Cantonment which was, later merged with the “Engineering Wing” of COMBAS and a new organization named Engineers Training Organization (ETO) was born. In 1976 ETO was reconstituted and named as Engineer Centre and School of Military Engineering (ECSME). In 1977, considering the requirements of training and administration, the institute was shifted to present location under Natore district in the western part of Bangladesh. On 11 May 1983, the Cantonment was renamed as Qadirabad Cantonment after the name of the great martyr of the liberation war in 1971 Lieutenant Colonel Md. Abdul Qadir.
