Biography

Momtaj Monwara is an academic and researcher with expertise in International Relations and Migration Studies. She completed her MSc in Migration, Mobility, and Development at SOAS, University of London, as a Commonwealth Shared Scholar in 2023. Her dissertation, which examined Citizenship and Belonging of Bangladeshi Immigrants in the UK, reflects her deep interest in questions of migration, citizenship, and belonging. Prior to this, she earned both her BSc and MSc degrees in International Relations from the University of Dhaka.

With over six years of experience as an educator in International Relations, Momtaj has contributed to student learning through her teaching and research. Her current research explores how different levels of identity and belonging intersect and shape the lived experiences of migrants. In October 2025, she will begin her PhD at the University of Leeds, where her project will explore the transnational lived citizenship and the politics of belonging, focusing on the experiences of Bangladeshi students and immigrants in the labour markets of the UK and Germany.
