Biography

Professor Shahab Enam Khan, PhD, is a distinguished Bangladeshi scholar of international relations and a global policy expert, renowned for over two decades of work in areas such as conflict mediation, counter-terrorism strategy, and Indo-Pacific geopolitics. He is internationally recognized for bridging academia, policy, and diplomacy through substantive engagements with governments, multilateral organizations, and think tanks across the Indo-Pacific region, as well as Europe and North America. 

Dr. Khan’s uniquely distinguished career is marked by prestigious global fellowships: he was a U.S. Fulbright Scholar-in-Residence (2022–2023) and a UK Chevening Fellow (2009), and has earned recognition as a Distinguished Scholar by Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and as an Eminent Scholar in China.  He is also an alumnus of the Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Studies at the U.S. National Defense University, reflecting his deep engagement with international strategic communities.

Dr. Khan is a Professor of International Relations at Jahangirnagar University and is currently on lien at the Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP). He also served as a Professor at the University of Delaware from 2022 to 2023.

He is also the Executive Director and CEO of the Bangladesh Center for Indo-Pacific Affairs, where he leads Track 1.5 diplomatic engagements and regional policy dialogues across the Indo-Pacific. In these roles, he straddles academia and practice, contributing scholarly expertise while guiding policy discussions on strategic issues.

Beyond his domestic engagements, Professor Khan’s expertise is sought by international organizations and forums. He has extensive consulting experience with United Nations agencies and other multilateral institutions, working with bodies such as UNDP Maldives, the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, UN Women, UNESCO, Swiss Development Cooperation, the International Republican Institute, and the British Council on projects ranging from governance reforms to counter-extremism initiatives. 

A prolific author, he has published multiple books and over two dozen scholarly articles on geopolitics, security, and regional affairs. Dr. Khan is also a regular keynote speaker at high-level conferences worldwide, having addressed audiences in more than 30 countries. His recent appearances at institutions like the US National Defense University, French Ecole Militaire, a Qatari Foreign Ministry-supported event, and the Wilson Center in Washington, D.C., further highlight his stature as a leading voice in South Asian security and Indo-Pacific affairs.
