Biography
Faria Kabir is a dedicated academic and researcher currently serving as a Lecturer in the Department of Disaster Management and Resilience (DMR) at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), where she joined in 2025. She previously worked as a GIS and Remote Sensing Specialist at the Centre for Climate Change and Environmental Research (C3ER), BRAC University.
Ms. Kabir holds a BSc and an MSc in Geography and Environment, and a second Master's degree in Governance and Development Studies, all from Jahangirnagar University. In recognition of her academic excellence, she received the UGC Award in 2018 as the highest scorer in the Faculty of Social Science.
With over three years of experience in the fields of climatic variability, advanced GIS and remote sensing applications, historical data analysis, geomorphological assessment, diaspora worker migration, and socio-economic research, Ms. Kabir has contributed significantly to both academic and development sectors. In 2024, she was awarded a fully funded opportunity by Asia Hub, Michigan State University, to participate in a training workshop on Earth Observation at Chiang Mai University, Thailand.
Her areas of expertise include GIS and remote sensing, land surface temperature analysis, community-level research, data interpretation, event coordination, and effective communication and team management. Her research interests span climate change adaptation and mitigation, green climate finance, the geopolitical context of climate change, and geomorphology.
Ms. Kabir has been certified in several professional development courses, including office management, SPSS-based data analysis, basic computer skills, and sustainability in banking management. She is also an accomplished academic with nine peer-reviewed research articles (till 2024), one book chapter, and three conference papers published in the domains of historical mapping, DEM analysis, climate change, disaster management, and urban planning.
