Biography
Prof.(Assoc.) Dr. Md. Nazmul Islam is a political scientist, distinguished academic, track II & parliamentary diplomat, and multilingual author. He currently works as an Associate Professor of Political Science and Head ofTürkiye, Asia, and Indo-Pacific Studies at Ankara Yildirim Beyazit University, Turkey. Since 2021, he has worked as an Advisor and Parliamentary Diplomat in the Turkish Parliament-TBMM. Starting in June 2024, Dr. Islam delivered lectures to newly appointed American diplomats assigned to the South Asia region at the Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of the United States Department of State as an Adjunct Lecturer. He extensively contributes to various international and local media platforms.
Dr.Islam taught postgraduate courses at Greifswald and Saarland Universities in Germany, Trento University in Italy, as well as at Ankara University and the Social Sciences University of Ankara. Additionally, he was awarded a Kautilya Research Fellowship by India’s Ministry of External Affairs and worked as a Visiting Researcher at Saarland University, Germany and as a Research Associate at the University of Cambridge’s Judge Business School and BRAC.
Dr.Islam has been actively involved with international organizations such as UNDP and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC). During his tenure at OIC-SESRIC, he worked directly under Ms. Zehra Zümrüt Selçuk, Türkiye’s former Minister of Family and Social Security and the current Director-General of SESRIC.
His scholarly contributions, primarily centered on foreign policy, diplomacy, international politics, and conflict resolution, are truly noteworthy. Dr.Islam has authored several books, including “Power of Bonding &Non-Western Strategy in Iran” published by Springer, PalgraveMacmillan, USA in 2023, and “Comparing China and India’s Soft Power Strategy in Pakistan” published by Lexington, USA in 2024. Moreover, he has contributed to numerous book chapters and peer-reviewed articles. He has also edited notable publications such as “The Rohingya Refugee Crisis in Myanmar” (Springer Nature, Palgrave Macmillan, 2022), “Comparative Public Administration” (Springer Nature, Palgrave Macmillan, 2022), and “South Asia: State, Society and Politics” (Nobel, 2023).
A prolific author, he has published numerous books, book chapters, and peer-reviewed articles, with several of his works included, indexed, and referred to in top university libraries, such as those of Harvard, MIT, Oxford, and Cambridge.
Dr.Islam is a frequent contributor to both Bangladeshi and international media outlets, offering insights on South Asian politics as well as the foreign policies and political dynamics of China, India, Turkey, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar. He has made appearances on various platforms, including TRT World, Alarabi, Anadolu Agency, CNN Türk, Daily Sabah, Al-Jazeera English, A News International, ATV, CGTN, Kanal-5, TGRT, EKOTÜRK, Kanal-5, Prothom Alo, Jugantor, Kalerkontho, Somoyer Alo, Vorer Dak, SETA, Al-Sharq Strategic Research, and Independent Türk, among others.
He is fluent in English, Turkish and Bengali (Native), with essential knowledge of Arabic, Urdu, Hindi, and German.
