Biography

Md Rabiul Islam, a Professor of Law at Jahangirnagar University (JU), Dhaka, Bangladesh, is involved in and passionate about research and teaching in constitutional law and comparative legal discourses. He is now holding the office of the Chairperson of the Department of Law & Justice at JU. In past, he also held the position of Chairperson of the Department of Law & Justice, JU twice, and the office of Dean of JU Law Faculty once. He did his LLB and first LLM from University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh but following these academic pursuits, he went to the University of Huddersfield  in the United Kingdom for another bachelor of Laws. Mr Islam bagged a specialized LLM in Comparative Constitutional Law from Central European University, Budapest-Vienna.  He pursued his PhD from the School of Law in City University of Hong Kong. Mr. Islam has a sizeable number of publications in the areas of constitutional law including ministerial responsibility, academic freedom, comparative federalism, critical approach to corporate social responsibility, comparative equality, racial discrimination in postcolonial states etc. Prior to joining to Jahangirnagar University, he previously held the academic position at University of Rajshahi and University of Asia Pacific, as well as the adjunct faculty role in Bangladesh Police Academy, Bangladesh University of Professionals and some other reputed private universities time to time. He experienced to work with the largest Bangladeshi legal NGO named Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) as an advisor. He also writes in the renowned Bangladeshi dailies regularly on various issues liable for injustice and discrimination in societies. During his time in Hong Kong, he was the President of the Bangladeshi Students' Association (BSAHK). Now, he aims to work as a social activist alongside his legal academic career.
