On October 14, 2025, the Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies (FSSS), Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) arranged an opportunity lecture on “Conflict Management, Art of Negotiation, and Importance of Peace in the Contemporary World”. Mr. Roelf Meyer, a former minister of defense of the Republic of South Africa and Mohammed Bhabha, a former member of parliament of South Africa delivered lectures in the event. The event was graced by Professor Dr. Khondoker Mokaddem Hossain, Pro-Vice Chancellor, BUP, Lt. Gen. Md. Mahfuzur Rahman, (Retd.) PhD, Chairman, Osmani Centre for Peace and Security Studies (OCPASS), officers from BUP and OCPASS, respected faculty members and students from different departments of FSSS.
In their speeches Mr. Meyer and Mr. Bhabha highlighted the importance of skillful negotiation for peaceful conflict management. The speakers narrated how inclusivity, tolerance and respect for human rights and dignity marked South Africa’s negotiation to transit from apartheid to democracy. It was an excellent opportunity for students to learn from prominent experts in the field of conflict negotiation. The lecture was followed by an engaging question/answer session. Md. Abu Bakar Siddique, Chairman (Acting), Department of Law, BUP marked the closure of the event with a vote of thanks.
