The Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Brigadier General Mohammad Shahiduzzaman Khan, ndc, afwc, psc, delivered a formal address to first-year students at a dedicated orientation program held at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) to welcome them into the faculty.
In his address, he highlighted the Faculty’s strong emphasis on academic distinction, disciplined conduct, and meaningful participation in research and scholarly activities. He also stressed the importance of nurturing ethical values, leadership capabilities, and a sense of accountability to society.
The orientation session familiarized new students with academic policies, assessment procedures, institutional norms, and the broader campus environment. It offered clear guidance regarding academic expectations and the wide range of opportunities available to support both personal and professional growth.
Referring to the significance of being eighteen years old—a transformative stage of life marked by aspiration, courage, and responsibility—he inspired the students by recalling the spirit of Atharo Bochhor Boyosh by Sukanta Bhattacharya. Through this reference, he encouraged the newcomers to embrace the vitality, idealism, and determination symbolized in the poem, reminding them that youth is a powerful force capable of shaping the future of the nation.
The session also acquainted students with academic regulations, assessment systems, institutional values, and the diverse opportunities available for intellectual and personal growth. The program concluded with motivating advice urging students to pursue excellence, uphold discipline, and make meaningful contributions throughout their academic journey at BUP.
