                                              BUP RESEARCH CENTRE (BRC): A NEW INITIATIVE

DEAN'S MESSAGE

BUP Research Centre (BRC) is a newly developed research entity for stimulating research atmosphere in Bangladesh University of Professionals. Present Dean of BRC is Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal, ndc, afwc, psc. Keeping the motto “Inspiring Innovation for Advancing Knowledge" in view, BRC is looking forward to becoming a leading research hub in the country. Accordingly, BRC has set its mission to administer UGC funded research projects, conduct consultancy and undertake independently funded research projects. BRC as a hub of the research of BUP, is inspiring the researchers to conduct quality research, promoting collaboration between academia and industry/organizations/institutions and adding value to societal and economic advancement.

ABOUT BRC

BUP Research Centre (BRC) is established on 1st August 2023 to stimulate research atmosphere in Bangladesh University of Professionals. This Centre has created opportunities to enhance the knowledge and experiences of BUP faculty members and its affiliated institutions in the field of research, innovation, and consultancy.  Besides there are scopes for experts from different fields of knowledge by supervising faculty research/participating through consultancy.

Vision:     To become a leading research hub in the country.
Mission:  To administer UGC funded research projects, conduct consultancy and undertake BUP funded research/ innovation projects.
Roles:      BRC performs following three separate roles: 

  • As a research administrator, BRC administers the projects funded by UGC in BUP. 
  • As a consultancy organization:
    -Builds repo with different research organizations, institutions, and centers.
    -Establishes links with governmental, non-governmental and international entities.
    -Receives consultancy requirements from above entities based on MOU/ repo / bid.
    -Provides any service such as laboratory support, testing services, forensic issues, etc. to different organizations through the faculties and departments of BUP.
  • As an independent research entity funded by BUP or other sources:
    -Identifies the scope/ receives proposal of research topic /innovation projects in various fields of knowledge from BUP and its affiliated institutions.
    -Accepts/rejects proposals considering merits through Project Evaluation Committee.
    -Disseminate the research/innovation output.


FACULTY RESEARCH
BRC administers the projects funded by UGC in BUP. The projects are conducted related to the faculties/ departments of BUP. BRC receives the project proposals from faculties of BUP and tally with the academic considerations like originality, justification, feasibility, creativity, impact, etc. BRC also arranges Project Evaluation Committee (PEC) meetings for approval of proposals, and acceptance of final reports.

INDEPENDENT RESEARCH/ INNOVATION
BRC conducts independent research/innovation projects in various fields of knowledge by the faculty members of BUP. Affiliated institutions of BUP can also participate in the research/innovation project. BRC identifies the scope/receives proposal of research topics /innovation projects in various fields of knowledge from BUP and its affiliated institutions. The proposal is accepted/rejected considering merits through Project Evaluation Committee.

CONSULTANCY
BRC forms the project team including selection of Project Director for consultancy. All the proposals are vetted through the Project Evaluation Committee (PEC). Consultancy services focus on business studies, demographic and population studies, poverty studies, development studies, security studies, peace and conflict, public health, cyber security, 4IR, Industrial research, gender research, etcetera. The services in those focused areas are as follows:

   -Any type of survey
   -Baseline study
   -Impact study
   -Economic, financial analysis and accounting research
   -Feasibility study
   -Review of feasibility study
   -Market assessment and demand analysis
   -EIA (Environmental and social impact assessments)
   -Vulnerability assessment
   -Quality assurance and software testing
   -End-line study/evaluation etcetera
