Brig Gen Muhammad Ali Talukder is a distinguished Army Officer with extensive experience in command, staff, instructional and strategic-level appointments spanning over three decades of dedicated military service. He was commissioned on 18 June 1993 with the 28 BMA Long Course into the Armoured Corps. During his service, Brig Gen Muhammad Ali has held important appointments in various units and formations. His regimental appointments include serving as Troop Leader, Quarter Master (QM), Adjutant, and Mechanical Transport Officer (MTO) in 4 Horse. He also served as QM and Troop Leader in 12 Lancers, Troop Leader and Adjutant of Armoured Squadron-24 Division, Squadron Commander in 6 Cavalry and subsequently as 2 IC and Commanding Officer of 12 Lancers.In addition to his regimental responsibilities, Brig Gen Muhammad Ali has performed a number of key staff and instructional assignments. His staff appointments include GSO-3(Operations) at Armed Forces Division (AFD), GSO-1 at Army Headquarters GS Branch, GSO-1 at ARTDOC. His instructional appointments include two tenures as Platoon Commander and Term Commander at Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA), Instructor Class B (Tactics) at School of Armour, and two tenures as Directing Staff(Army) at the Armed Forces War Course (AFWC), National Defence College (NDC). Brig Gen Muhammad Ali has undergone extensive professional military education and strategic-level training. Besides the mandatory courses, he has completed Junior Officer’s Administration Course, Driving and Maintenance Instructor’s Course and Potential Platoon Commander’s Course. He is a graduate of the Defence Services Command and Staff College (DSCSC), Dhaka and Command and Staff College (CSC),Quetta, Pakistan. He is also a graduate of the National Defence Course (NDC) and Armed Forces War Course (AFWC) from the National Defence College, Dhaka. Besides the Army Staff Course at Quetta, his other foreign training includes courses at the Armoured Engineering University, China, Joint Services Command and Staff College, United Kingdom and Permanent Joint Headquarters, United Kingdom. Brig Muhammad Ali obtained his BSc from Chittagong University, Masters of Defence Studies from National University, MSS from BUP and MPhil from BUP. Additionally, he completed a Post Graduate Diploma in International Relations and an Advanced Research Methodology Course from the University of Dhaka. He also an MSc from Baluchistan University, Pakistan. Currently, he is a Doctoral fellow at BUP. Brig Gen Muhammad Ali has also contributed to international peacekeeping in the United Nations Mission in Liberia (UNMIL) and United Nations Operation in Côte d'Ivoire (ONUCI). He is currently serving as Chief of the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) in BUP. Before taking this appointment, he acted as Dean of the Faculty of Security & Strategic Studies (FSSS) in BUP from 12 January 2023 to 06 September 2026. Brig Gen Muhammad Ali Talukder taught Statecraft, Strategic Studies, Security Studies, Research Methodology, Joint Operations, Operational Doctrines, Tactics, Strategy Formulation, Military Systems, Conflict Analysis and Defence Diplomacy. He has participated in numerous national and international seminars, conferences and professional forums, contributing to continuous learning and exchanging knowledge in the field of education, defence and security.His research interests include Strategic Culture, Security Studies, Joint Operational Warfare, Military Doctrines, Strategy Formulation and Conflict Analysis.
