Students of the Disaster Management & Resilience Department , Batch 25, visited the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) on 30 October 2025 as part of their academic field visit. The field visit was designed to enhance their practical understanding of meteorological concept and its crucial role in disaster management across Bangladesh.
During the visit, students received hands-on exposure to a wide range of meteorological systems and tools used nationwide for weather monitoring and forecasting. Experts from BMD explained the operational procedures behind weather forecasting models, highlighting how short-term and long-term forecasts are generated. Students also learned about the mechanisms used to issue early warnings for floods, cyclones, and other severe weather events, which are essential for minimizing loss of life and property. The Students had the opportunity to observe various meteorological instruments, including devices used for measuring rainfall, temperature, humidity, wind patterns, and atmospheric pressure. They also witnessed real-time data collection, processing, and analysis, gaining a deeper understanding of how meteorological information is transformed into actionable forecasts.
