The Department of International Relations under the Faculty of Security and Strategic Studies (FSSS) at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) successfully hosted a seminar titled “Navigating the Changing Global Order: The Case of Bangladesh” on 17 February 2026 at Shadhinata Auditorium of BUP. The seminar brought together academics, practitioners, and students to critically examine the evolving contours of the post Cold War international system and its implications for Bangladesh. The keynote address was delivered by Ambassador Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury (Retd.), PhD, Former Foreign Advisor (Minister for Foreign Affairs) of the Bangladesh Caretaker Government (2007–2009). Drawing on his extensive diplomatic experience, he provided a nuanced assessment of the emerging geopolitical landscape and outlined policy considerations for Bangladesh’s foreign relations strategy. The session was moderated by Lt. General Mohd. Aminul Karim, PhD (Retd.), Distinguished Professor, Department of IR, FSSS, BUP. Among the panel speakers, Assistant Professor Md. Abdul Hannan of the Department of International Relations, FSSS, BUP, presented a comprehensive analysis of the changing strategic environment in the Bay of Bengal region. Mushfiqa Ahsan Prodhan, MIR student at the Department of International Relations, presented the section, “Bangladesh in the Bay of Bengal Region: Navigating Power-Politics and Economic-Cultural Cooperation”. Her discussion was framed around how Bangladesh navigates the growing challenges of power politics, economic and cultural cooperation within its vital maritime space. The seminar was a vibrant one due to the thoughtful question and answer session participated by students, faculty members and the speakers.
