The Department of Development Studies at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) organized a five-day residential training program on “Quantitative Research Methodology and Development Communication” at the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD), Kotbari, Cumilla, from 27–31 May 2025, for 3rd year undergraduate students. Designed to build a strong foundation in research methods and communication strategies, the program combined classroom lectures, interactive discussions, assignments, group work, and brainstorming sessions with hands-on field exposure. A major component was a task-oriented field study in a local village (Bataichari, Barura, Cumilla), where students collected data using PRA tools, developed research questions, applied sampling techniques, and later prepared and presented group reports based on their findings. The training further enhanced skills in data collection, analysis, interpretation, report writing, and public speaking, while fostering teamwork, discipline, and communication. Cultural and historical visits to Shalban Vihara, Maynamati War Cemetery, and other Cumilla landmarks, along with indoor sports and debrief sessions, enriched the experience. Overall, the program successfully bridged classroom learning with field practice, strengthened academic capacity, and encouraged future collaborations between BUP and BARD.
