Field visit to Rural Development Academy (RDA), Bogura by the students (MSS-2025) of the department of Development Studies

26 Oct 2025

As part of the course DS 5106: Field Development Exposure, the MSS-2025 batch of the Department of Development Studies, Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP), went on a five-day field visit to the Rural Development Academy (RDA), Bogura from 26–30 October 2025. The purpose of this field visit was to expose students to real-world development practices, enhance their understanding of rural development initiatives, and strengthen their research competencies through hands-on project observation, data collection, and analytical exercises. After an initial orientation and campus tour, students visited two of RDA’s key Action Research Projects, the Integrated Water Management (IWM) Project and the Poverty-Free Model Village. During these visits, they interacted directly with local villagers and project beneficiaries, through which they collected both quantitative and qualitative data on livelihoods, community participation, and development outcomes. As part of strengthening their research skills, students participated in a hands-on workshop on both quantitative and qualitative data analysis and report writing. This workshop helped them organize the data collected from the field, apply analytical techniques, and prepare structured discussions of their observations. The field exposure also included a visit to historical places. Followed by the visit to historical places, students presented their preliminary findings based on the data gathered from the project sites and village interactions. These presentations allowed them to reflect on their field experience and draw insights into rural development challenges and opportunities. Overall, the visit provided an important combination of practical exposure, research training, and experiential learning.
